The Challenge: To rebrand and create cohesion for an organization that has multiple existing variations of past logos and a scattered identity.
The Nokomis East Neighborhood Association (NENA) is a vibrant area with some beautiful parks and quaint housing. One major draw to the community is their annual Monarch Festival. To focus the identity and create a visual that the community can connect with I worked with the idea of the butterfly and crafted a brand that ties the community to the beauty and nature that it's most proud of.
The Identity Fashion show was an event put on by the University of Minnesota fashion design seniors to show their work at the end of their final semester.
The concept of the branding was to create question about the identity of these people. This question was designed to intrigue people to come see the fashion that helps shape identity; both as a designer, and as a wearer.
While the concept and execution were my own; the entire process was very collaborative and I worked closely with the fashion design team to book the models, and make collateral pieces that met their social media, and publicity needs.
The shins rebrand project gave me the opportunity to take existing albums and reimagine how they were packaged.
As I sketched and ideated the album titles began to take on individual personas that I was able to turn into three distinct worlds.
Chutes Too Narrow became an imaginative jungle version of chutes and ladders. Wincing the Night Away naturally gave way to whimsical nightmare creatures; and Port of Morrow fell into more of a nautical inspired mix of fanciful creatures. Since the illustrations were complex, the treatment of the type remained very simple and legible so that the overall effect would remain balanced.
Baseline woodcraft is a company that focuses on creating unique, natural gift items. There is structure to their design and overall style. To reflect those characteristics, I worked with the team to create a laser cut wooden business card holder design in addition to packaging and branding that would stand out to our target client.
Anchor Fish is a restaurant that cares about sophistication and elegance. The identity of the brand is built to reflect those qualities in a unique way. Pairing a bold title with an elegant pattern gives the customer a small visual taste of what kind of food the restaurant serves. Impactful flavors, beautifully plated.
Revive is an identity and personal thesis project design that focuses on PET plastic bottles. The display shows facts in an interactive infographic format that talk about production, use, waste, and recycling opportunities of PET plastic. The goal was to create a display that users could interact with and present the information in a format that was visually engaging without being overwhelming. I also created small note booklets as a take away item for people visiting the exhibition.
